NAGOYA SAKAE TOURIST ATTRACTIONS and THINGS TO DO

Sakae is the downtown area of Nagoya, and for most people going to Sakae means going shopping or getting a bite to eat. Otsu-dori, crossing North to South, is the best street for brand shopping in Nagoya. Besides shopping and eating, here are some other ideas of things to do.

CENTRAL PARK

It's not huge, but it's right downtown making Nagoya's Central Park a nice side trip if in the area. There are a few fountains, and the TV Tower is situated here, so its easy to find.

GO UP THE NAGOYA TV TOWER

A ride up to the observation deck is a great way to learn about the city and get one's bearings. The observation platform is just at 100 meters, but there is a nice view and food and beverages are available. 600 yen adults entry

CHECK OUT THE UNDERGROUND MALL

The whole area below Central Park is a long underground mall with all types of shops, restaurants and cafes. It's not top end shopping, but worth a look around on the way to going above ground.

TAKE A RIDE ON A FERRIS WHEEL

The Sunshine building in the center of Sakae besides having a variety of shops and cafes also has a ferris wheel slowly circling its North side for the public to ride with decent views of the downtown Sakae area.

OASIS 21

Oasis21 is a neat place to walk around for different views of Nagoya, with especially stunning views at night. On the lower floors is a small mall with some restaurants, cafes and shops as well as a tourist information counter.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON ROCK-A-BILLIES

Near the circle fountain on Sundays when the weather is warm, a group of 50's rock and rollers devotees twitch away the afternoon dressed in 50's clothing with their hair gelled back. It's just for fun, but can be a hoot to watch.
